Infrastructure Development Management
The Backbone of Growth at Ehya Sepahan Iron Ore Mines Company
At Ehya Sepahan Iron Ore Mines Company, infrastructure development is not viewed merely as a technical endeavor—it is an integral part of the organization’s strategic vision. The Infrastructure Development Division, leveraging engineering expertise, field experience, and a deep understanding of operational needs, is responsible for designing and implementing infrastructure that supports the company’s mining, production, and social activities.
Over the past year, a series of projects in civil engineering, energy, and essential services have been executed—projects that directly contribute to sustainable growth and enhanced productivity.
Advancing Civil Development and Sustainability
Every development requires a suitable foundation for settlement, work, and life. Accordingly, the expansion of administrative, service, and support spaces was a key priority for the Infrastructure Division last year. These spaces were designed not only to facilitate operational efficiency but also to provide a more dignified work environment for employees.
Key initiatives include:
- Renovation and expansion of the Mashhad administrative building to meet growing demands of headquarters units
- Construction and equipping of a new kitchen for Mashhad administrative staff
- Advancing studies for the Hashemieh Street administrative project and obtaining construction permits
- Launching Phase I studies for an industrial kitchen at Site 2
- Reviewing and designing administrative buildings for Sites 1 and 2 (factories and mines)
- Comprehensive design of the Central Laboratory and HSE Center in two study phases
Infrastructure Beyond Production
Ehya Sepahan believes that mining activities must be conducted with respect for surrounding communities. As such, part of the company’s technical capacity has been dedicated to projects that directly improve local living standards and enhance the region’s appearance.
Notable community-focused projects:
- Construction of a sports hall for Fatemeh Al-Zahra Girls’ High School to promote student health
- Design and implementation of the “Ehya Sepahan” urban square in Sangan to beautify the cityscape
- Rehabilitation and asphalt resurfacing of the Goryab access road to improve transportation and reduce local freight costs
Smart Water Management in a Dry Climate
With increased production capacity and limited regional water resources, sustainable water supply and consumption management became a critical concern. The company responded with a comprehensive package of technical, legal, and operational measures, anchored by its Strategic Water Supply Document.
Major achievements include:
- Securing over 700,000 cubic meters of industrial water from various sources, including licensed wells, qanats, and tanker purchases
- Obtaining the first-ever industrial exploitation license for the company’s dedicated well in the region
- Achieving over 70% cost savings compared to alternative water supply methods
- Major upgrades to water transmission lines to boost efficiency
- Dredging and revitalizing qanats to stabilize traditional water sources
- Effective engagement with governmental and regional bodies to secure water quotas
- Conducting specialized studies for industrial water consumption management and planning for smart monitoring systems
A New Approach to Electricity: From Consumption to Energy Management
As the industry enters an era where mere energy consumption is no longer sufficient, Ehya Sepahan has taken steps toward optimal electricity utilization. This includes entering the electricity market through bilateral contracts and investing in green energy—marking a strategic shift in energy management.
Key actions and solutions:
- Initiating the construction of a solar power plant to meet energy demands
- Partnering with licensed electricity retailers for transparent bilateral supply contracts
- Purchasing green electricity under Article 16 to reduce blackout risks during peak demand and ensure production continuity
Technical electricity projects:
- By year-end, the company aims to achieve energy independence through the commissioning of a dedicated substation and transmission line, significantly reducing long-term energy costs
- Development of two 132 kV feeders at Khaf substation and design of a dedicated 20/132 kV substation for the company
- Construction of a 132/400 kV transmission line between Khaf substation and the company’s production site
- Procurement and installation of power transformers and substation equipment to achieve energy self-sufficiency
Infrastructure as a Strategic Mindset
At Ehya Sepahan, infrastructure development is not just a project—it’s a philosophy. It blends precise engineering, economic foresight, and social responsibility. With this approach, the Infrastructure Development Division is not only a support arm for production but a driving force for transformation in the iron ore industry.
