In response to the water resource constraints of the Khaf Sangan mining industrial zone and at the same time as the factories’ production capacity increased by 30 percent, water resource management has become one of the strategic axes of Sepahan Iron Ore Mines Company in recent years. Sepahan Iron Ore Mines Company’s approach, based on sustainable development, economic productivity, and maintaining the resilience of critical infrastructure, has been implemented in the form of the following extensive technical, legal, and executive measures, relying on the strategic document for water supply to concentrate production factories.

Sustainable Supply and Optimization of Industrial Water Consumption with an Innovative Approach in Production Lines
Utilization of diverse resources, including licensed wells, regional qanats, and emergency tanker purchases, to supply more than 700,000 cubic meters of industrial water in support of production lines.
Key Achievements
-
Obtaining an industrial operation license for the company’s dedicated well (for the first time in the region)
-
Reducing the total cost of water supply for production by more than 60% compared to alternative sources
-
Complete design and modification of approximately 3 km of water transmission lines from the supply source (wells) to the five geomembrane reservoirs and concentrate production plants
-
Dredging qanats to stabilize sustainable water resources
-
Positive and productive interactions with governmental and regional institutions (such as drilling piezometric monitoring wells)
-
Specialized studies to optimize water consumption in production lines and filtration processes, in collaboration with knowledge-based companies
-
Initial planning and studies on smart solutions and monitoring of water consumption
-
Planning and research to prevent 95% evaporation of geomembrane reservoir water, especially in hot seasons, by using pool covers, with negotiations already held with reputable domestic manufacturers in this field.
