Spare Parts Warehouse Automation Project
Ehya Sepahan Iron Ore Mines Company
In pursuit of enhanced inventory management and improved operational efficiency within the spare parts supply unit, Ehya Sepahan Iron Ore Mines Company has launched the Spare Parts Warehouse Automation Project. The primary goal of this initiative is to optimize warehousing processes, reduce human error, and enable precise, real-time access to inventory data.
Project Implementation Phases
1. Analysis of Current Warehouse Operations
The project team began by evaluating existing warehousing procedures, identifying weaknesses and key operational needs. This included reviewing inventory registration systems, storage methods, error rates, and retrieval times.
2. System Design and Software Selection
Based on the analysis, a tailored automation system was designed. A warehouse management software was selected with capabilities for real-time tracking of incoming and outgoing parts, detailed reporting, and integration with other organizational systems.
3. Item Definition and Categorization
In collaboration with technical and warehouse units, all spare parts were defined and categorized within the system. This included registering technical specifications, storage locations, and minimum safety stock levels to ensure fast and accurate retrieval.
4. Equipment Installation and Software Deployment
Automation-related equipment—including barcode scanners, smart shelving, and control panels—was installed. The warehouse management software was then deployed and tested to ensure system accuracy and reliability.
5. User Training and Operational Launch
Following system setup, warehouse staff received training to manage inventory processes in alignment with the new automated system. Pilot operations were conducted to validate system performance before full-scale implementation.
Project Outcomes
The automation of the spare parts warehouse has delivered significant benefits:
- Reduced human error in inventory registration and management
- Increased speed and accuracy in warehouse operations
- Real-time access to inventory data and part history
- Improved supply planning and reduced storage costs
- Seamless integration with other organizational systems and enhanced analytical reporting
